Smith Engineering is seeking a Senior Manager, Energy Group to join our team in the New York Metro area. You will split your time between our Manhattan office and various customer sites.

Your Role
We are seeking a Sr. Manager, Energy to report to the Vice President, Energy.  In this vey hands on role, working at various customer sites as well as our Manhattan office, you will lead and grow a team of energy engineers. You will drive strategic initiatives and ensure the delivery of high-quality energy engineering solutions, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
You will be expected to evaluate and develop energy options that reduce costs, lower carbon emissions, and/or improve efficiency for complex commercial and institutional facilities. You must be comfortable working with a Chief Engineer in a plant environment as well as presenting your findings to a team of engineers, building managers, and senior management.
Responsibilities:
  • Project Leadership: Provide oversight and strategic management as you lead and manage projects from conception to completion.
  • Team Management: Hiring, mentoring, and managing a team of energy engineers, including  conducting performance reviews, providing professional development, and delegating tasks.
  • Field Surveys: Perform field surveys and collect data for preparing equipment tables, energy calculations, and building control sequences.
  • Technical Analysis: Conduct ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 Energy Audits using software such as Trane Trace 700, IESVE, or eQUEST.
  • Troubleshooting: Evaluate, analyze, inspect, and troubleshoot systems, including but not limited to LL87 retro-commissioning and various testing procedures (chiller, pump, pressure, flow).
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze utility bills, perform feasibility studies, and conduct cost-benefit financial analyses for potential Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).
  • Vendor Relations: Collaborate with vendors and contractors to obtain pricing for ECMs.
  • Presentation: Develop and present professional findings to internal senior staff and customers.
  • Maintenance: Stay current on advances in new energy options, ASHRAE Standards, and NYC/NYS Energy Code.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of cumulative project experience including under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • 7-10 years of experience in building energy efficiency or a related field, including 5+ years of experience performing energy audits and Retro-Cx projects.
  • 3-5 years of direct experience managing a team of engineers
  • Experience with energy conservation measure development, including savings and incentive calculations.
  • Demonstrable business acumen and experience in client relations and business development
  • Proficiency with eQuest, IESVE, or Trane Trace 700 is required. Experience with IES is preferred.
  • Must be located within 50 miles of New York City.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
